HP printer problem

I have a HP printer and sometimes it doesn't work.
When I installed Win98 it just prints when it wants

You might try loading new HP drivers for the printer.....RE plug the printer cable in........change the setting for how quickly it prints (eliminate the spooling for example). Here is HP site for drivers: http://www.hp.com/cposupport/eschome.html

Press Delete ( del ) on boot up , now this part can vary depending on
your version .
Go to Intergrated Peripherals & then Onboard Parallel Mode , using
the arrow key .
Make a note of the existing entry .
Use the Page Down button to try the next entry .
Press Esc .
Save & Exit , Y , press Enter .
If it is still not right , repeat above , again & again .
If you find a entry that works , make sure you make a note of it .
Eventually you get back to where you started . John .
