View Full Version : unable to view cd-rom

I am having some problem with getting linux to read my cd-rom.
I click onto the cd-rom icon.
then afeter few minutes gives me error could not mount device.
The reported error was:
/dev/hdb: input/output error
mount: I could not determine the file system type, and was specified.
Please help
I have tried normal music cd-roms and mp3 cds

Try using a CD/MP3/Multimedia player. You probably will not be able to browse the CD like a regular CD rom without changing some of Mandrake's setup (although you can browse Data CD-Roms just fine).

You are correct here.

Sorry could you elaborate?
I have right clicked on the cd-rom to see if there is mp3/multiplayer
links, nut non found.

Hi Sid,
With the CD-Rom allready in the drive, use the menus open a CD Player (so don't click on the drive, use the menu system an look under multimedia or sound or something for a CD player or XMS). A CD player should start playing if you hit the play button. I think that for XMS, you will have to hit L (for open file) and navigate to the CD-Rom.
