In another forum which I frequent, some concerns have recently been expressed regarding the prolonged and deafening silence coming out of Lavasoft.
I must stress there is no hard evidence, just a shared feeling that all may not be well there?
Should there be any adverse developments relating to AdAware, PC Forum members might feel that this is an appropriate to review their anti-spyware strategies.
Spybot - which of course freeware - springs to mind, either used in conjunction with AdAware, or even as its replacement.
In that context, the very comprehensive review found here might be of interest:) :)

I like Spybot except that its updates leave me confused (more than normal). I'm not sure which components to pick and frozen downloads have killed the program. Have you experienced that?

Hi there Reid
Yes and No!
Updates do seem confusing! Best advice I have seen/received is to delete the foreign language updates (by right-clicking on them) and then download all of the rest.
That's what I now do, anyway.
Due to lack of expertise, I also leave the registry items picked-up in the S&D scans well alone!
Frozen downloads I have NOT experienced, maybe because I'm on cable.......or maybe I just got lucky?
Hope this helps, otherwise please get back to me.:)
Spybot apparently had conflicts with my Mustek "watch.exe" twain loader. Spybot became non-responding when updating and XP could not end it. When I tried to shut down, "watch" was also not responding. I disabled "watch" in MSCONFIG and can update Spybot after a reboot.

Evening Paul,
At last my friend from the Emerald Isle, I'VE been able to help YOU with something.
Yes, I realise how much work you put in very late at night, helping me and others.
At least, this time, it's not all one way traffic!!:) :)

Hi Paul,
Yep, copy that!
Time for bed, Paul - not much happening tonight on the Forums!
I'm off elsewhere:)

hey Mitch, thx for the link. SpyBot is great. I run Adaware few days ago and yesterday i gave SpyBot a try. I thought it wouldnt find many 'spies', but was surprised as it found quite a few, and i didnt install any such apps in between(i.e. days between Adaware and SpyBot)
So, definitely, SpyBot is much better than Adaware.
