Recently I upgraded my old mothorboard & processor to an Asus CUSL2-C, with a Socket 370 P3-800. The boot-up sequence goes OK, I think, but the monitor stays on stand-by. Therefore I assume it must be a problem with the ATI Radeon card in the AGP slot interfacing with the rest of the system.
Any help would be very warmly received

Are you getting any "beeps" when you start the system? If the monitor stays blank.....the boot sequence should NOT be OK http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif ..ie no beep...No beep means everything is NOT ok(and multiple beeps usually mean there is a problem). Double check to make sure the cmos jumper is not set to "clear"....it needs to be in the "normal" position to boot up the system and often motherboards are shipped with it in the clear position to save the battery. Then if you dont get a post up, you will want to "reseat" your memory......then try a different video card....then post back the results and someone will take you from there.

I checked my jumpers, they were set to 'Jumperfree mode.' I assume that is what I should keep them on for stability. ie all jumpers are off... I saw the other posts on similar topics, and followed the suggestions there. As for beeps - I get a longish one on power up, and I know for certain that the CD ROM is working (I'll go back & check the other two.) Any other suggestions short of getting a technition out?

Also, which is the CMOS jumper ie any other names? The manual makes no reference to it.

OK..........Lets forget the cmos jumper for now.....After reading the info on your motherboard I think it is the cpu motherboard settings that are the problem. EVEN in "jumperless" mode, you HAVE to "tell" the bios what your cpu is (in your case a PIII-800.....which SHOULD have a 100 mhz Front Side Bus and an 8 multiplier .....the core voltage needs to be set @ 1.65 volts [if yours is a standard PIII-800] If you have the "EB" ver. of the PIII-800 then the FSB should be at 133 mhz and the clock set at a 6 multiplier and the core voltage again at 1.65 volts. You might have to make these changes ON THE MOTHERBOARD RATHER THAN PUT IT IN JUMPERLESS MODE TO GET IT TO POST UP. If this is more than you are comfortable with...then it is time to get a technician involved.

Done it - Bad manual layout made it difficult to know that the jumpers had to be set for 66mhz for 1st boot up. Thanks for the help anyway.
