The home network has gotten increasingly slow. The NICs are 100mb/s in the 4 important machines. The fastest speeds I've seen are 42mb/s. Lately though the speeds have fallen below 120kB/s across the Lan which is slower than we can download from the net. Not really sure what to check on this one. I suppose I could try a different switch. Any other ideas out there?

Well I've been investigating this a bit further to see if I could isolate anything. We have 3 computers that were testing. The connections rates are such that each computer has a good and slow connection to the other two depending upon if uploading or downloading - a lil' traingle of confusion to me right now. Not sure how that helps me.
also haven't been able to locate the old switch we used to use

This article explains some things to look at :Common causes of network slowdowns (http://www.zdnet.com.au/itmanager/technology/story/0,2000029587,20266265,00.htm)
Good Luck :)

Thanks for the link, it was helpful. I've run ping in between all the comps and the speeds seem good, generally 1ms sometimes it'll report <10ms. I ran the traceroute but the screen flashes by so quickly I couldn't read it. I'm thinking maybe the "spaghetti pile" of wires behind the desk is causing cross talk interference.

Well I finally got the problem fixed. The Linksys router has failed. I probably would've been scratching my head for a while but then all the LEDs on the router wnt haywire.
