I have had "The Cleaner"on a 30 day trial and am quite impressed. It's not using a lot of resources, its very quick and on a recent scan, it picked up three instances of the presence of the Gibson' Leak Test device.

Bearing in mind cost, however, I've also looked at two freebies - both featured on mjc's list, which appears elsewhere in this Forum.

They are "SwatIt" and "Backwork".

SwatIt seems very, very slow, although it may scanning more files, and it did NOT detect any of the Gibson's devices. Resource usage was acceptable.

Backwork, on the other hand, seemed to scan only my program files, but nearly was as quick as The Cleaner overall, although again the file count may have been a lot lower. It too failed to detect any of the Gibson's devices. Resource usage was ok.

My question is, therefore, are either of these freebies capable of doing an acceptable job, or is this false economy?
