View Full Version : 30 sec hang on startup

I experience a system freeze of about 30 seconds after my desktop loads up and almost always right when my dvd player spins up. The computer won't allow anything (not even mouse movement) for about half a minute. The hang only started after I installed a pioneer dvd-115 drive. I am using the latest firmware and everything else seems to check out. I've tried disabling all other programs on startup and even going through step-by-step startup but I haven't been able to pinpoint the problem. The only thing that seems to cause the hang is the dvd.

win98se

acer 4432 burner
annihilator pro geforce

You might need to make some DMA setting changes to get this to stop. Go to Device Mgr. (In Control Panel/System) and then to the cd rom section...then to the DVD and check "Properties"......if DMA is "on" - turn it off and visa versa......Let us know if that helped.

I had dma enabled on the drive and I tried disabling that and also auto insert notification just to be sure and the problem still crops up on startup.

So what happens if you boot with the dvd player empty ???

It hangs no matter what's in the drive, cd, dvd, cd-r, cd-rw. Always after everything on the desktop has loaded and always for close to 30 seconds.

my primary ide channel has two hard drives (master and slave) my secondary channel has my dvd as the master and my cd burner as slave.

is that what you were wanting?
