Hope I am in he correct place. Could not really see where else to post it, so here goes.
First problem solved due acquiring a limited intelligence. Plus using eyes to see with
Remaining problem a puzzling annoyance
Also there are times, whilst logged in, and I try to post a reply or new thread, I am told I am not logged in and I have to enter my user name and password. This even though I can see the "Welcome back ErnieK" at the top of the forums page and after posting a couple of minutes previously:confused:

This happens to me when I switch between my internet profiles to check mail or other things. I have to close my browser and reopen in another profile and when I come back I have to log in again to post. If I go to PCGuide in the other profile, it says I am there, but I still have to log in again to post. I believe this is because I have my preference set to log me off when I leave; there is an option to log on more automatically if I remember correctly.
Hope this is helpful,
Budfred

Hi budfred
I am sole user on my computer and therefor only have one profile.
I have been able to reply ot this without logging in, but in a few minutes time WITOUT closing the browser or leaving the forum(s) I will more than likely have to log in if I try to post a reply or new thread.

(Middle of browser session?)
Ernie,
Are you using some program that deletes your cookies? That would cause it as PCG would not recognize your pc after that.
Another trick that may help to try is: Hold down the 'Shift' key when clicking over the 'Reply' button or any other 'button' for that matter. It opens another window that you can reply in and leaves the first one intact. Then close the second window so as not to be confused which is which (or end up with several windows open at once needlessly).
Don't worry that the first window doesn't 'see' your reply immediately, as soon as you move about the forums it will automatically refresh itself.
I use the new 'Trick' all the time now, courtesy of ixl's making me aware of it. I find it extremely useful in that it prevents all the 'New Post' indicators from turning color so I can peruse the whole site for my entire session finding new posts by colour rather than looking at the dates or 'Today/Yesterday' markers.
It also preserves the "Go to First New Post" down arrow within the forums.
Luck,
I have had a couple of oddities occur when performing moderator tasks, all related to cookie problems, namely taking too much time between openning a window (browser) and actually using that window. It seems like the cookie or the session expired. But a reload of the page usually fixes it, though, occasionally logging in again is needed (like twice out of the 20+ something like that has happened to me).

ErnieK,
I have two profiles because I use different email addresses for different things as a way to avoid SPAM. I am the sole user of my computer as well, but I really REALLY hate SPAM.:D
Anyway, it does sound like a cookie problem to me also.

So long as I am not the only one it is happening to. It is lonely being the only one;) If you are having the prob mjc I know it will get fixed.
Budfred
The contact mail address for here is used only for that purpose, and I have another web-mail address for other on-line things. This keeps my proper e-mail clean of spam. Like you I detest it. I now use a filter for mail. Inly wish I could find one for web mail.

Hi Ernie
Only really one for Webmail and that's Spam Detective.
I use it for Hotmail and Yahoo Webmail. It's really effective.
Try it FREEE for 30 days here:

I think MailWasher also works to screen Webmail. It doesn't filter it, but it does let you do so.

Not with Hotmail, unfortunately.
It's a promised enhancement for later this year, but don't hold your breath!

Spam Detective - try it FREEE for 30 days, Ernie!
Mine's caught 38 pieces of Hotmail spam today - already. It also previewed the email notification of your posting and let it through :)
A bargain, surely, even for a thifty Scotsman:D :D

Ernie - it's not that you're tight fisted, it's just that I've heard you charge for your replies!
Only joking, mate:D :D
I think that Emtec's website is under siege - or maybe out of order?
Do you want me to Email the latest version of SD to you? If so, it will have to come as an attachment( about 900k or so), which will of course be virus-free:)
Ernie, wondering if they weren't suffering a DoS attack or something, the site is back up now. (Seems like quite a few anti-spam sites have been getting DoSsed lately....)
