i have a problem with my pc system. first of all, let me give you an
over all view of my pc desktop machine. i have an AT type computer with
a pentium III 600mhz processor. for this kind of PC the power supply
is 230 watts. this PC by the way is just assembled to minimize cost.
The motherboard i got is the Soltek 63AV+ model and my memory runs at
256 mb(PC133 type). It also comes with the standard multimedia peripherals- sound card(creative sound blaster),video card(inno3d GE Force2 200mx),cd-rom. there are 2 hard disk installed in my pc(a 4.3GB & 10GB HD). so as you can see my pc is quite loaded.recently i just added a cd writer and here's where the technical problem started. When i play my usual pc games (i.e. NBA 2001, RED ALERT 2, DIABLO Expansion set), it's very noticeable that the games slow down. previously when the cd writer wasn't yet there, the pc games played perfectly well. could the cd writer affect the normal run of my pc games? hoping to have some technical advice from you guys there.

best regards,

I'm not expert in the "guts" questions, but if you didn't have problems before CD writer, and do now..then that would be the first place to look.:)

Is the CD software icon down by the clock? Running constantly in the background? Have you tried turning it off (ConAltDel) before playing a game?

Need a tech for this..but think it is possible that a 230 watt power supply isn't enough when one includes the CD writer into the system.

Welcome to PCGuide!

I'm guessing that the system needs more power. 230W is not much with all the stuff you have on there. You may want to think about upgrading your power supply. I'd wait for some of the experts to voice an opinion before taking that step though, so I yield the floor... ;)
