I want to copy datas from one HD to the other, using the same computer. How do I do that without formating the HD I want to copy to,since it contains all my drivers.?

What exactly are you wanting to copy?

If it is just data you can hook up both drives in the same machine, making sure one is jumpered as master and the other, slave. Then just boot as usual and cut and paste.

Nope, program files quite probably won't work...there is to much registry entanglement to just shift many programs around.

O.K. So what are my alternatives? Can I retrieve them by other ways?

I am guessing that you don't have the original program disks? If you have the original disks it is best to install them on the new drive and then transfer any specific data you want saved.

If you don't have them, the next question is whether you have enough room on the 2nd HD to copy your entire 1st HD to it. I don't think there is any other way to copy only part of the HD without really messing up your Registry settings.

If you have Norton Systemworks or McAfee's equivalent they each have an uninstaller that can package a program for transport.

Yes.I do have enough space. My old HD is a 2.GB and my new one is a 20Gb.I want to transfer everything to the new one.How do I proceed?I do not want to buy expensive software.

If you are going to replace the 2 GB drive with a new 20 GB drive, leave your old drive in and install the new drive in your system. Then use the drive manufacturer's software to partition and format the new drive. This software will include a utility to exactly copy all the data on the old drive to the new one. When you take out the old drive, leaving the new drive as Primary master, it will boot just like your old drive with all your programs intact.

If you didn't get a floppy disk with this software, you can get the software from the manufacturer's web site.
