Hi, I just built a new computer and when it loads with my Windows 2000 bootdisk, it says, "BootSector Write! VIRUS: Continue: (Y/N)?"
Is there really a virus? And what should I do?
Good question....where did this boot disk come from and has it been exposed to any other machines?
A good scan may be in order here.
Does the new mchine have an OS installed yet?
If not are you attempting to do that when you get the error?
Are you boot ing to the CD to do the install...no boot disk needed, just set the CD to be the first boot device and insert the disk.
Have you disabled the BIOS AV protection (usually a write protection of the boot sector), to do the OS install?

This disk was created using another machine, so it has been exposed to other machines. The new machine has nothing on it. I just finished building it yesterday and am now trying partition, format, and install Windows2000.
I read somewhere that some Windows2000 disks can't be used to first-boot--apparently, mine is one of them.
Hmmm... I'm very paranoid when it comes to viruses, so I do have BIOS AV protection enabled.

That's where your warning is coming from.
BIOS thinks you are the one trying to install
something unhealthy.
Best bet is to always use a boot disk that you
are certain that it is safe and clean. Can you
or someone you know run a virus scan on this disk.
Even using a clean boot disk this error message
can show 'cause all BIOS knows is that someone
is writing to the master boot record. In this
case it is you.
You can dis-able this in BIOS until after the O/S
is installed or select Y at the Yes/No option
and carry on with your install.
