Problems with DVD hardware

I recently bought a LG CD-RW & DVD ROM Reader
GCC-4120B (Not sure if that's a make or a serial code)
It records CD's fine, reads CD's fine, Plays DVD movies well enough but when it comes to Data DVD's like PC Gamer DVD with all those demos etc. It can't read it and when i finally managed to get into the DVD directory and double click on the excutable it gives me an error message of a General Protection Fault in whatver file... Any help please? :(
Oh and the those DVD's work on another computer with a DVD drive so I'm assuming it's my DVD drive.

Would appear that this is a "firmware"
issue with this particular unit.

I would rather not get into "firmware"
flashing as it is easy for a person to
shoot himself in the foot.

So ya saying that this a common problem with this unit? :mad:
Well at least I can access the DVD and get what I want but damn it's gonna be annoying... Shelled out an extra £20 for the DVD reader instead of a normal CD-RW :(
