On W98SE and IE6, I ran WW for about six months' of a 30 day trial!

I had NO problems whatsoever installing, running it daily, or uninstalling it.

File size of WW is in fact 1.03 Mb, but I can't seem to find what HD space it needs to operate in. There's a FREEEE utility for identifying file sizes on your system which was recommended to me on this Forum, but I can't remember its name.

Clearly, your HD space was quite limited, but WW should not have compromised it to that extent.

Whether or not you've purchased the software, u can uninstall WW and then do a clean reinstall from a fresh download. If u have in fact bought it, you may need proof of purchase eventually, should u download a trial version of the software as outlined above.

Hope this helps, but there are wiser men than me on the PC Guide Forums;) ;)

First thing, manully clean out your Temp file...best done in DOS.

Reboot, hit f8 before it says starting Win or the win logo comes up. Then when you get the start up menu, selec Safe mode command prompt. When you get to the prompt, type cd windows, that will take you to the windows folder, then cd temp, that will take you to the temp folder, then type dir that will show you what is in it. then delete all the stuff in it by typing del (filename or folder name you got from the dir command).

then reboot into windows start up Web washer and see if it has an option to make a backup of the stuff you are wanting to remove...

Thank You for your replies. Now that I read them and thought about it I think I did something dumb and it has nothing to do with "window washer". Thanks again.

At the risk of being overly curious, what did you do?

Think of a response as your opportunity to increase the body of experience by proxy that others might use to avoid similar problems.:D

Also, remember that we all have made tons of simple mistakes.;)

The dumb thing I did was to open a game I downloaded just before I ran window washer. But I had trouble with the rar files and opened it 7 times and some how into 7 different folders. taking up 1.5 gb's of hard drive space. brain fade again.

Well that certainly accounts for a lot of missing space. Good thing you figured it out before doing something more destructive to your system to correct a problem that wasn't there. I have lost count of the times that I have run such a solution only to find out that I made things worse rather than better.:D

I remember one time a support person told me the fix for a problem was to uninstall and reinstall Windows. Now this wasn't a Windows problem, so I said goodbye and sought other solutions. Utimately, it turned out to be a simple adjustment, but I could have wasted several hours trying to fix the fix if I had followed the support guy's instructions. Glad to hear you got it fixed with less hassle.

In my experience, the "solution" most software tech support people recommend in almost all cases (regardless of the real problem), is to uninstall and reinstall Windows. Likewise, most hardware tech support people recommend replacing the computer hardware (or at least the motherboard).

That's why the PcGuide forum is so great - you get real answers, instead of instructions to replace all the software or hardware wholesale without really knowing what caused the problem in the first place. :)
