I just installed a new motherboard (Soyo Dragon Ultra Platinum), AMD Athlon XP 1800, 512 PC 2700 RAM, in upgrading from a PIII system.
When booting up it stops while loading Win XP either in loading personal settings or while populating the desktop.
I have unhooked all attached cards, etc., except for the video card (NVIDIA Ti500). No change.
Do I need to reload Win XP? If so, should I change to boot from CD-ROM?

Changing hardware like this has XP
confused as it is still looking for
the PIII system.
Best bet is to call M$oft and get yourself
a new activation code and re-install XP
as a fresh install.

I run Win98 myself so I don't know that much about XP but:
Have you removed all of the old motherboard drivers and installed the new motherboard drivers?
The removal may need to be done in safe mode and I would look in device manager under system devices, also maybe HD and floppy controllers, USB controllers and any other device that is built into the mother board (sound, Lan, etc.).
When you remove these drivers then reboot, WinXP should detect the hardware then install its own drivers or ask you to install the new drivers.
Otherwise, you probably need to do a clean install of Win XP like Ranchdog said.
see this (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16422) thread for reasons to reinstall XP...
Also moving to windows.....
