Ok, I have the QuickCamPro 3000 and everything was working fine. All of the sudden, when opening the program the green lite goes on the camera and then goes off and then of course the video capture screen is black. The USB port is fine as that was checked and the program states that "the camera device is currently in use by another application". I don't have anything else running to my knowledge. So does anyone have any ideas what the problem may be or what the camera device is? So I can check the so-called device to see if anything is using it whatever that is. Thanks for all ideas!

You can use Task Manager to see if you have anything else running that might be messing you up. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and look in open programs for anything that looks like it might be imaging, like scanner software. I used to have something called stimon that would mess up my whole system, but I excluded it in msconfig and things are much smoother now.
If you don't have any luck this way, you may want to try reinstalling your camera drivers.
Good luck,

Ok it didn't work. and already tried the re-install. The same thing keeps happening.I'll have to keep troubleshooting and disabling things one by one. Weird thing I noticed that even though the camera goes off I clicked on record anyway and a window pops up and states that it is unable to save video to c:\windows\temp\log30d5.avi and when I hit ok and do the same thing again it comes up again stating the same thing but with a different log number!? Don't know what videos it is refering to because I never saved any. But maybe that information can shed some light on the problem for any other ideas from you or anyone else. Thanks again for your time and effort, jjrizzo

Are you familiar with using msconfig? You go to Start, Run, type msconfig, hit Enter. Choose Selective Startup and go to the Startup Programs tab. Unselect everything that you don't know for sure what it is. Close msconfig and it will tell you to restart to use new settings. Restart and see if the camera is working properly. If it is, go back to msconfig and begin selecting programs again and restarting until you find the problem again. That will be the program that is causing the problem.
As for the not being able to save video thing, that is probably because the program for the camera opens a file when you activate it, but nothing can be stored because the software doesn't let you use the camera.
If you have any other software that will work the camera, you might try accessing it from that, almost any imaging program these days comes with options for getting images from scanners or cameras.
Good luck,
Budfred

Tried it and still no success. Will maybe try it in safe mode but then a lot of things don't work in safe mode. The cameras green lite goes on when it's plugged in then it goes off. I also noticed that when the camera is plugged in and I reboot the computer freezes on start up and I have to shut it off manually, uplug it, then restart and everything is ok. Just to let you know the webcam was under warranty and I called the Company and they tried a little bit of their troubleshooting with me and we both agreed it was the camera. So the gave me another new camera and you guessed it, the same problems. Thanks again for your effort and if you think of anything would appreciate it much!! jjrizzo

Did you disable pretty much everything in Selective Startup and then add things back one at a time if it works without? Have you tried a different USB port?
The light coming on and then going off is normal I think. I think mine does that and the light comes back on when I activate the software to use the camera.
Can you borrow a camera that you know is working and try it on your system? It wouldn't have to be the same type to see if your software is working or if it is a hardware issue. If it works under safe mode, that would tell you that it is probably software that is interfering. Your original post really makes it sound like there is a software problem.
Good luck,
Budfred
