I use hard drives in swap bays to do back-ups and swap files.

I assume, that to avoid activation issues, they must set as removable drives in Disk Management.
I am unsure if I have to set them as removable, but cannot find setting to do this.

Question: Will Microsoft see removable drives as hardware changes?
If so, how do I configure settings to avoid having to reactivate?

As long as the original drive is not removed ( The one containing the O/S) it will not need to be reactivated.

I’ve found that as long as the drive is added after the install and is Not changing the drive order it has little or no effect on XP
It’ shouldn’t make any difference if it was in the system as long as the O/S isn’t set to use it as a pagefile / temp drive

Thanks for the response Rick!

I'll use your information gratefully. The drive letters for CDROM & CDRW are reserved as "Q:" and "R:", so swapped drives should not change anything.
