errors burning with hp cd-writer 8200

hi

ive had my hp burner for about 3 years now, with no problems, but recently i keep getting errors when trying to copy discs, i use nero 5 and the copy goes ok, until at the end when errors are reported which state: "invalid writestate" and also "could not perform end of disc at once".
ive burnt loads of discs so far with win xp and had no trouble, but all of a sudden this problem has started happening.
ive also used different cdrs and different burning software, but no matter what ones i use the result is still the same, errors.
at the moment i just cant burn anything properly.

I'd go through all the basic stuff first. C+Alt+Del and shut everything down that isn't needed. Uninstall and reinstall the software. Go into Device manager, remove the drive and reboot - check if there are new drivers you can use. Try using a lens cleaner. Copy your files to the hard drive first. Enable DMA on your drives if capable. Remove and the reattach the connectors to the drive. Consider that the drive may be on it's way out or if you're operating system has been installed for a couple years a clean install might help.
