Ok, here's the deal. Tried to run Pearl Harbor Zero Hour. When game starts to load i get error message "Cannot Initalize Directx". I ran the diagnostics screens for DirectX and all seems to test ok. Video card is Rage Pro Turbo AGP 2X w/4Mb memory. System IBM Aptiva 128Mb ram.

Thanks Jiggy, I downloaded latest directx version 8.1 same results. I then went to ati's site and downloaded an alt. driver as the driver included with win98 does not support directx/openGL. Well the new driver lets the game load only parts of screen has flashing display and when I click on "accept mission" the game quits and returns to desktop. So I guess its either a new game card or live without game...sob:(

There is a little known bug in Direct X 8 and 8.1 that effects about a third of the "non-XP" computers it is installed on. In some installs the Direct X diagnostic tool indicates that Direct 3D acceleration is "enabled" when in fact it is NOT. Here is the workaround for it:
Run the Direct X Diagnostic Tool, click on the "Display" tab, click on the "Disable" button located to the right of the Direct 3D Acceleration listing, click "Yes" when asked if you wish to continue, If the popup says "This will ENABLE Direct 3D acceleration", you may close the tool and restart your system, if the popup says "This will "DISABLE" Direct 3D acceleraton" close the tool, then re-run the tool and click the same button AGAIN, say "Yes" again, close the tool and restart your system.
Windows will not correctly run ANY 3D intensive program if Direct 3D acceleration is disabled. This problem happened to myself and a large number of friends and customers when Direct X 8 was first released.
Hope this is the answer to your problem!
