As you may notice, there are now ads running on the forums again. I have found a company, RAM Electronics, that was interested in sponsoring the forums and have granted them exclusive banner ad rights to the forums. I am very grateful for their interest in supporting the site and hope you will consider them as a supplier. The RAM ELectronics folks understand the value of subtle ads as opposed to loud and flashy banners, for which I am also grateful.

I am still planning to develop the code to allow those who wish to sponsor the site directly to avoid seeing ads, but this will take more time as it is not simple to implement.

Let me or the mods know if there are any problems.

(EDIT: I have encountered a problem with the scripting for showing the ads so they may appear and/or disappear or you may see some odd behavior until I figure out what I am doing. :) Sorry for the trouble.)

Hi Charles-
Glad you mentioned the "Warning"
It's funny, I was just about to post a question asking what the "Warning: Cannot add header information..." was all about when I saw your post!
Anyway, the Ram add looks fine. Keep up the great work.
:)
(Edit) Wow- Ram Electronics looks like they have some pretty cool stuff!

Thanks jabar. :)

Okay, I think I ironed out the bugs for now. If anyone now finds any bugs or errors please let me know.

I was getting the warning and unfortunately I posted a question about it before I got a chance to see your announcement. The other bug that I have encountered is that I have been logged off twice today while I was browsing the Forum. I logged in and began reading messages, then I would click on Reply and be asked to log in again. The first time it apparently logged my out while I was writing a reply so I had to do it all over again and that was one of my most profound treatises:D .

Anyway, since this banner thing was being set up today, I was wondering if the log off problem is related. This hasn't happened to me at other times.

Thanks,
Budfred

Nice one, ixl!

Quite a coup, IMHO.

Getting commercial sponsorship can be a lot more difficult than some might imagine. :)

And it's acceptably unobtrusive.

Congrats on the sponser. Just a note though, the last time I got a ication in my e-mail about a response I was taken directly to the Ram site. I closed the window and started all over and everything was normal. One question, I am never logged in or off {not a problem] but how come? I an always able to get right on the site and right off.
Anyway I am glad that you have found a sponser!!
Regards Mark: :D :D

Nice visible but unobtrusive Ad.

BTW; Recently deleted my cookies by mistake. Just logging-on didn't restore them but going into CP and then EditOptions and turned them off. Submitted modifications; returned and turned them on again and that put them back as they had been.

1. One advantage to RAM Electronics of having their banner hosted on PC Guide (rather than a link to a banner which is hosted on another site as most ads are), is that AdSubtract doesn't automatically eliminate the banner, as it does for 99% of most advertising. I haven't seen a banner ad in quite a while but since the banner is on the PC Guide server itself, AdSubtract has no way of knowing (unless explicitly told so) that the banner isn't a "regular" part of the PC Guide web site.

2. I checked out the products on the RAM Electronics site, and was somewhat amused to find that they do not sell RAM!?
