weird errors in event log and connection dropping

i have a small lan, two win2k machines, one 98se, all connected to a switch and a router connected to cable. normally, there are no problems, but everyso often the connection dies and the only thing i've found that'll fix it is to turn off/on the router. the only thing i can think is that one of the machines on the network somehow steals control of the network but the only info i have to go on is what little i've found on the net and the event viewer. i've already configured the registry on both the 2k machines for master browser, trying just about every combination, without solving the problem. i was curious if there is something else that goes on in the background that causes the router to stop responding to traffic.

here's a list of what happens in chronological order, and i can count that this list of events has happened three times in the last two days. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

The first 2 errors are caused by the router (which I'll assume is also your DHCP server) is not answering "DHCP" request fast enough.

The last 2 errors mean that 2 computers on your network have the same name. Which cause netbios not to "bind" to any service or network card.

Rebooting the router would fix the first pair of errors, but not the second pair. (unless you have some strange broadcast problem going on) You may need to replace your router if it's DHCP server is not answering reqest till after you reboot it.


For the 2nd set of errors. You should make sure that all computers on your network have different names and that each is less than 15 characters long.
