I was reading a post about a system that was crawling along and some suggestions included checking what was running and shutting down the unneeded stuff. That prompted me to Ctrl-Alt-Del and see what I have running. The one's that I am not sure about were:

Fsscrctl
Proproxy
Em-exec
Hidserv
Mxtask

My question is whether anyone can tell me what any of these are and whether they may be needed. I am running WinME and my system is running pretty smoothly at the moment. I am on an HP with 700mhz AMD CPU and 512 RAM. I have 2 DVD drives, 1 CDRW, 15 gig HD, DSL modem, PCI card for two IDE drives.

Thanks,
Budfred

Hey Budfred,

Here's a list of startup programs, what they are and if you need them. I think you can safely shut those ones off.

Check here to make sure though.;)
