Hi,
I need help installing a new dlink ethernet card and configuring it. IT came with a wire/cable and i'm not sure if i'm supposed to attach it and to where? Also, can you please list the protocols etc. and the function of each to connect to the school's network and also for me to go on the internet. Thanks in advance

To install the card, just follow the driections that came with it.
Usually, you
1) power off the computer
2) Open the case
3) ground yourself by touching the metal frame of the case.
4) Open a peripheral slot.
5) insert the card.
6) Power up the computer and follow the bouncing cursor. You will need the driver diskette or CD and either your Windows CD or the location of the CAB files on your hard disk.
7) You plug one end of the cable into the back of the network card and the other end into a wall jack that looks like a telepphone jack only slightly larger.
8) You will have to have the IS people at your school instruct you on the proper settings for their network.
These steps are for a desktop pc If you have a notebook, the steps are slightly different.

u say a wire/cable was provided with the card.as far i know that wire is used to connect the network card to motherboard to provide wake-up on LAN function.is the wire provided a 4 pair or a single pair wire(is it colored like red & black)this wake-up on lan funtion enable your networked computer to wake up from suspend or sleep mode whenever another computer requests resources that r available on your computer.this works only if your motherboard supports the wake-up on lan function.
