A newish PC recently upgraded (not clean install) from 95 is giving a disk read error on about one boot in three. One or two alt+ctrl+del will then allow it to boot and run normally.
Is this indicative of a hard disk failure? What steps (other than backups!) would you advise?
Thanks.
Tony.

as I do not know the 'history' of this system, the main thing that strikes me when reading your post is "(not clean install)"
therefore, you could have conflicts, or left-over problems from previous installations.

Backups -- definately, if you need to reinstall Win you'll need them and in some cases read errors could be OS related.
A few more specifics on the system and error messages would be helpful, include thing like recntly adde apps, hardware, age and processor speed, memory size.
