Hi Everyone ...
Friend has computer running Win 98se . Says he recently installed some website creation type software. Now .. when he starts his computer the "Dial-Up Connection" dialog box pops up on his screen before computer has finished booting the OS. Says he can hit cancel,(on the dialog box), and the machine will finish booting up OS. Seems to run OK. Just wanted to know if there is some way of stopping dialog box from popping up during boot process.
Thanks
Storm

i would check in the program he downloaded to see if it is set to autoload and check in Startup files to see if it is there. I would also run AdAware or some other spyware scanning tool to see if it installed more than your friend bargained for. If your friend hasn't run and antivirus scan lately, this might be a good time. Post back with more info on what has been done and you may get more suggestions.
Good luck,
Budfred

Sorry guys .... went away .... just got back .
Friend said that web site creation software is , "Web Easy Pro" by VCOM. Paul .. I didn't ask him about booting safe mode. Too late here now to call and ask him. (He works early). Besides .. don't want his Mrs to come over here and thrash me. I'll see if I can find this VCOM on web and check out what software he's talking about. I'll post again when I get better info .
Thanks for responses .

I would bet that your friend got some spyware or adware along with his program. Here is a link to a thread from mjc about programs to scan for and eliminate this type of stuff.

OK Guys .... Back again !
Got it straightened out. Went to friend's house. Found out that he didn't tell me EVERYTHING over the phone. Win98 SE choked on software during initial installation. There were some missing dll files. I assume they had something to do with how the software connects to the internet. Removed program .. and reinstalled. Everything OK now .
Thanks for your help !

I'd still urge you to run some spyware scanner, that program sounds suspiciously like one that I tried to install that started to install adware or spyware.
I am glad it is working regardless.:)
