Hi Guys,

I was asked a question today by a colleague about internet chat rooms. He wanted to know if there was anyway he could find what was said in a previous didcussion in an internet chat room. He has been looking through his temp internet files folder but with no suceess.

I suspect you are not able to retrieve this sort of information, but if anyone knows a way to do so, the help would be appreciated.

If the chat wasn't saved to a file and there was no monitoring software/spyware in place during the chat (Google Monitoring Chat (http://www.google.com/search?q=monitoring+chat&sourceid=opera&num=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8)) at the time then, even though this may have been on the HDD at some point in time, it is likely to have been over-written and incapable of being "undeleted" by other utility software or services.

It is more likely to be able to recover the history of when and what sites were visited - unless these have been deliberately shredded.

Most local chat clients (those that are actually on your hard drive) have some sort of logging feature. Also most if not all do not pass what is said written to the drive unless that loggin is turned on...all is kept in memory only and when you disconnect or shutdown all is lost.
