I have an logitech itouch keyboard which always worked fine on this ME machine. Suddenly, it crashes anytime you use the scroll wheel (mouse scroll is ok) and says "itouch has caused a fault in user.exe and will now close". Tried loading original & updated drivers, no change. Could it be user.exe is corrupted, and if so where/how can I replace it?
Thanks,
Dan

The first thing I would do is uninstall whatever software you have for the keyboard. If you have been trying to reinstall over the existing version, it may simply be maintaining the same error. I might also check Logitech's web site to see if they have an upgrade for the driver or if they have an FAQs about similar problems. You can also do a search for user.exe and delete it where you find it, but ONLY if you are sure it is for the keyboard. Other programs may use the same name and you could end up crippling another program.
Good luck,
Budfred

Could have a peep at user.exe Win98 (http://www.techadvice.com/w98/U/user-exe_w98.htm)
Running sfc might make things better (or worse).

Yep, Paul, it seems like that would be a good idea. The basic thing Dan, don't delete that file. Checking for an update to the keyboard driver may be your best bet.
Good luck,
Budfred

Thanks for the replies. I have tried reloading the original keyboard drivers, as well as an update downloaded from logitech, same thing. ME doesn't have system file checker, it has something called system file protection instead. Obviously works great, if my experience with this benighted OS is any example. If anyone has any more ideas re: this keyboard problem, I'm all ears (traded in some thumbs... )

Have you tried to remove the keyboard in Safe Mode?
Boot into "Safe Mode" and remove the keyboard and software there....

Must have missed the ME. So you could always try a System Restore to a point before this happened; and undo it later to get back to today if you need to.

Funny you should mention restore, I tried deleting the original driver & instances of "keyboard" in system under safe mode as mjc suggested, also loading the updated driver from the logitech site at that time. Without going into extraneous details the results were actually less functional then before. So I tried going to restore to go back to the original setting, and instead of a calendar with available restore points, I was informed "no restore points for the following date: December 31, 1899. Yup *1899*. Oh well. So ANYway, I RE-installed the original driver from the cd which came with the keyboard (for about the 4th time) and now it finally works again.
Thanks for the replies,
Dan
Yep, you have the 1899 reg bug (a semi-well know ME bug)...
