I've got a seagate st51080a HDD Its 1 gig (1083MB) I pulled it from a working machine. the new machine I put it in recognizes it fine. The problem I'm haveing is formatting it. I use a boot disk for win 98SE I run fdisk to create the partition and set it active, restart to A: prompt type format c: and get a message that reads "format not supported" "Format Terminated" I run fdisk again and the partition is gone. Win ME boot disk does the same. has anyone else encountered this message "format not supported" "format terminated" its a new one to me.
Could this be a virus that was on the hard drive that waits to activate when a format is performed.
scandisk with and without surface switch doesn't help
