I just want to know, is there any way i can share files between a laptop and a desktop without using direct cable?
The only available resources i have is both have modem and i have telephone chord to connect both. The problem is how will i configure both pc's. I don't have a laplink cable, and other stuffs. Just the telephone chord and the modem. Both PC's dont have lan cards neither.
Man!!!!I think I'll have to rob a bank to purchase those add-ons so i don't have to thinl of ways that is totally.... (I can't describe)

I've never heard of a modem to modem local transfer. I suppose if you had two telephone lines you could do ftp or similiar across the net. For small files you could store them on a web based email and then pick them up OR there's floppies or CDRs. No USB either?

I often send myself links and files from my laptop or desktop at work to my home computer by email. I attach files or just include links in an email message. If you have 2 phone lines you can do this at home in direct fashion or if you have 1 line. You can send with one computer, disconnect it and then plug in the other to receive. You will need two email profiles to make this work most easily, but most ISP accounts allow you to have several email identities.
If you are working with 2 lines you could also get a program like PCAnywhere or Timbuktu to allow one computer to be host and the other to remote control, then you can transfer files with that. To use this technique you would need 2 separate web accounts.
If your machines have 10/100 cards, you can use a direct cable connection. I have been looking into that recently and have found desktop cards frequently going for $5 after rebates, laptop cards for about $10 after rebates and the cable can be had for about $5. This would probably be the most efficient way to do it, but the other ways would work as well.
