Maximum Browser Cache

I'm sorry if this post is in the wrong forum, I just couldn't figure out where to put it. I'm not on a network and am using AOL as my ISP. They automatically set my max browser cache at 1830912 KB. I always seem to go over this number until I remember to clear it. I have 512MB of RAM installed and am running WIN XP. How would I know what the correct amount is and does it make any difference?

Go here and run the diagnostics test on your machine, it will tell you what you need to improve on machine. Test takes about 4minutes.

I seen where 8MB is the recommended setting. That is what i have my on.

Nearly 2 GB for a broswer cache?

And you run out of space?

You need to start clearing it out more regualrly (in internet options you should set it for something like 5 to 15 MB, and then under advanced set it to clear automatically on exit...now that will probably do it for IE, the options should be similar, if not the same for AOL).

The browser cache is to help speed up page loads, and if you have it to use most of the freespace on your drive then it cache everything, invcluding pages that are so out of date they are useless. One tht large will actually slow down your surfing, as the browser will search through everything in the cache before getting the new page off the internet.
