My sleep was jolted by a ringing phone. A fellow's daughter's 486 just snuffed out and as college student she needs a new pc asap. The conversation quickly turned to money and what I felt it would cost him to rouse me outta bed on a Saturday morning and into action. Once a price is settled on and I have a idea of the hardware that's needed I'm off to my local PC shop where I once worked for the man. More haggling insues and after two cups of coffee agreements are reached. I'm getting a good deal today which thickens the bottom line for me plus she's getting a pretty nice 1.2 Athlon. Once home I build the box, start the format and installs. Everything is well. I get to the end where the last proggy is installed and I'm ready to hit the road to finish off the job. Thinking I should make a bite to eat I boot his pc one last time to play a cd I made which I call, "summer tunes of the late 60's to groove on while watching girls in their bikini's walk past my balcony". Suddenly the pc burbs out a few beeps. HUH...?

Looking at the monitor it tells me the hard disk needs to scandisk because it could have a bad sector. Windows won't boot. Slumping back into my recliner I belly up to the keyboard and boot the pc into dos to run scandisk/surface scan. Now, some three hours later this brand new WD HDD has no less than 19 bad sectors and counting. I'm going through the motions now. No way I'll let this box leave my bench in this shape so I gotta wait until Monday to replace the HDD while my now less than happy customer waits patiently.

Momma don't let yur babies grow up to be pc techs.

I'd 'beep' the horn if I saw some bikinis too! ;)

Please don't be meaning to say that the 'CAVIAR' (http://www.justcaviar.com/images/homebot_r6_c6.gif) series of WD is merely disguised frogs eggs  That's what I use and so far I'm glad to say there's no pollywogs (http://www.whose-tadpole.de/images/quappelix.gif) yet... :p Knock on Wood Frog (http://www.mikeredmer.com/_borders/Wood_Frog_Portrait.jpg)

(I was going to put a link with 'bikini' but... there was more butt than bikini... :o )

BTW I'm listening to Ten Years After. Well Good Morning Lil' School Girl... OK, OK, I've said enough so, I'm Goin' Home... :D

Well Monday came and I scooted over to the PC shop and they gave me a new HHD as replacement. By 7pm everything was installed one more time and all is good in the world once again.

Now I have this other box sitting here that just goes beep beep beep beep beep etc. Think I'll grab a beer and sit on the front balcony while the sun sets.
