CPU Problem

Working on an Acer system CPU 233 ,failes to post i done the usually checks of adapter cards,memory ets. the cpu fan had a lot of dust buildup. So to check this, all i had was an Intel 233 cpu. So to just check for post i used the intell,note the voltage difference sys made the post ok. Only voltage setting on MoBo is 3.3 and 3.5. I ordered another 233 AMD but sys would not post after installation. I replaced the AMD with the intell again the sys booted. Question will it destroy the intell if I run it at the higher voltage.
