Well the whole thing took about 1 hour. The install took longer than the download. I have cable [1500k down] so that helped quite a bit. If you use to backup [so you can remove if it blowsup] it takes alot of space, almost 500mgs. I think I will get some of this back from Temp internet files [I hope]. Comes in 2 steps. One is ie6 and the other is windows. I did this from Win update. By the way all the original links and shortcuts come back after installation, so you will spend time getting things back the way you had them. reboot was kind of slow ,as well as opening screen, but will see what happens as we go along. Otherwise no big deal. Oh yeah, the download is custimized for what you need and what already is on your machine. Definitely need broaband so you don't lose your mind.
may the force be with you on this deal
Mark:)

Quick follow up the reason it takes so much space is because of the system restore and that the whole download is backed up. Can remove the whole thing from add/remove software. No change in anything else.

Hi Mark- I find this interesting....
(from the Win update site):
Total download size for a typical installation is approximately 30 megabytes (MB). However, because setup downloads only those files that are necessary for your computer, this size may vary.
This is not including the IE update( Approx 25mb) So...Why so big?

Also, let me know if you have any problems and if you feel it's "worth it". I know I'll download it eventually, but I also noticed in the "release notes" that there are 30 some odd "knowledge base" articles on various problems you may encounter after installing SP1.

Leave it to M$, they cover everything don't they!

I d/led SP1 as well as the IE6 update, and I'm having bugginess in IE. Many hyperlink icons come up as red X's. I don't know which d/l this came from, but for example over on the left on the smilies, while some smilies show up the one for sticking out the tongue shows up as a red X and then the text "stick out tongue" following the red X. Any advice guys?

I was under the impression that the IE6 update is included within the XP SP1 - have I got that wrong??

They come as two seperate updates. If you go to win update site, you do each as seperate download. Takes along time without broadband. On my sysyem everything went right On the ie6 download you get some extra links as default. Took about an hour with cable [1500 down] Takes alot of space to work in. The download is not alot, but uses 600-700mgs to work with. Computer does seem faster
