I just can't stand these type of Ads on web pages, in fact I usually just leave the page asap if I can't get it out of my view in a couple seconds. Is this really what passes for advertisement? A sad state of affairs for web advertisers if this is the only junk they can come up with.

Hey G, was looking to get really annoyed...and you didn't provide a link! :(
Are you running any kind of Ad-blocking software?
A technique that can be used to block a particularly annoying site/ad is to use a HOSTS file...the hosts file will be used by your browser before it request the info from a DNS server, so it can be used to remap a site to somewhere else. Windows normally, by default, does not use it, but it is included (at least a sample version).
Post back with some system details and I can help set you up to block some of these annoying sites....

Sorry for taking a while getting back. Thanks for the reply mjc but I've had less than satisfactory results with blocking software.

Hi Mjc,
Even though this is an old thread, I am interested in the hot file you were talking about. Here's my info.
p4 1.8 ghz

mx400 64mb
Win XP
IE6
dvd+rw
And assorted other stuff
Hope you read this old post.
Thanks Mark

Hosts is a file used byTCP/IP, not software. It basically contains a list of domain names you tell your system to block. mjc has been using it and has had good results.
How to use the Hosts File (http://www.accs-net.com/hosts/how_to_use_hosts.html) has some good info about it and some sample hosts files you can download, as well as instructions for using it.
I just turn off java, ActiveX and Animations...inhibits the functionality of some websites, but usually I have no real problems, and no bothersome animations, pop ups, pop unders etc...

Here's what I've found out that sometimes works to stop the flashing ads. Sometines if you hit the Esc key they will stop flashing. Or sometimes if you right click the ad, there will be an option that says "Stop Animation". But, as I mentioned, it doesn't work all the time. I agree with you. I don't mind advertising, but I hate the ones that are bright and flashing.

I sent an email to a Webmaster of one site suggesting that the ads were flashing at a rate that can induce seizures in some people, so they might want to consider the liability concerns. The ad disappeared shortly after that, but I don't know if my message had anything to do with it.
