Hi, I was just reading about extra toolbars in another post and hotbar was mentioned. I know it is spyware because of ad-ware, but it doesn't seem to bother by comp. Some of itstool bars are useful and the the animations are fun. My question is does anyone know if hotbar is sending info to other sources [they say they don't], and if there is any real harm from it.
Mark:confused:

Seems to be a "harmless" tracking device. See below :)

Delete it with Spybot or AdAware:

www.patrick.kolla.de/spybotsd.html or: www.lavasoftusa.com

If you don't mind some advertising group building a profile of your surfing, buying and other habits/preferences (in a rather easy manner), compiling that info with possibly personally identifiable data, maybe adding your email address to an opt-in list (that would open you up to major spam channels...except you have opted in to them.....) then it is harmelss......

Not that Hotbar does all of the above, but it certainly does some of them. I am willing to bet most if not all the added features of it can be found in other non-spyware riddled applications.

Hi Mark

If I haven't been completely discredited by now, you might find this to be of interest, seeing as you originally said that there certain aspects of Hotbar which appealed to you.

"Hotbar is a free customization scheme for Internet Explorer version 4 and above. It will replace the wallpaper option within the browser, and allows for easy storage and change of wallpaper. It will add the Hot Bar customization scheme to both Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer. It's pretty neat. The only problem is that it adds another bar below your address bar. In the new version, this can't be dragged elsewhere. It will also overwrite some of your personalized settings. WORD OF WARNING- Hotbar is considered Spyware, meaning that it willtransmit demographic data back to a remote server. If you have installed Hotbar and want to completely eliminate the reference to it on your computer, visit www.lavasoftusa.com for a FREE spyware removal utility. A simple uninstall will not remove the references."

Once again, you should get rid!!;) ;)

Hi Mitch
Always glad to hear from you. Thanks for info. One thing you can drag bar anywhere you want. Just unlock toolbars and away you go. I have a nice 3 line setup that gives me all I need and wastes no screen space. I am not so bothered by the spyware because my wife uses aol, and thats the biggest spyware of all time. She brings her own acess thru our cable acess. Anyway I'll think about what to do with hot bar.
Thanks again Mark:D :D

Yeah, with AOL you have about as much privacy as you do in an average locker room........none.
