Just a little reading from PC World...What they feel are the Worlds Worst Viruses (http://www.pcworld.com/features/article/0,aid,103992,00.asp)
Yep...Klez is included.

Hey Jabar
Whilst doing your research did you discover what, if any protction does an anti-virus program like AVG offer in repect of received Emails - excluding OE, which I don't use.
Alongside AVG, I'm running a prog called vCatch Basic, but I don't really trust it?
I think they missed one, one that I think is like the Una-bomber of the virus world.
CIH (Chernobyl), when it first hit the scene it did massive amounts of damage, fortunately not all versions were able to wipeout the BIOS, but that wasn't its only way of inflicting damage. It would trash the hard drive, infect the MBR of every floppy it came in contact with and it has incredible staying power...it still gets a fair number of suystems every year. It is the reason most motherboards these days have some sort of anti-virus protection built into the BIOS...whether it is a physical protection, like a write protect jumper or a program like ChipAway.
No, it did not have the distribution of Klez, but.....

Ask a "silly" question and you get a silly answer....or maybe NO answer at all!!
Can't be due to an overload of postings. Perhaps it just me who asks a lot of dumb questions, to which there are no suitable answers.?
One for mjc, I believe.:)
Mitch
I can’t speak for AVG but I can tell you that it should protect you from the know virus’s
I use AVG as a secondary file scanner
I know it supports e-mail checking. ( It will or can be set to scan all e-mails)
I use a combo of ZoneAlarm and NAV to secure my systems from virus, Trojan and harmful scripts
I’m sure AVG can do the same
The key to any scheme is keep your definition file UP TO DATE
Remember also
Teach any other people who use your system to leave the security in place
I can speak from personal experience on this one.
Having someone turn off the security to download a file.
Then later find the systems are infected.
All because he believed that the system was a little to slow..

Here is the reply which I got from AVG Tech Support - and a
very prompt response at that!
"I'm very sorry butwe don't support your e-mail
client just now. In this moment, supported clients are:
MS Exchange client
MS Outlook 97
MS Outlook 98
MS Outlook 2000
MS Outlook 2002 (XP)
MS Outlook Express 5
Qualcomm Eudora (32bit)
The Bat! 1.6+
But if AVG E-mail scanner is not fully functional on your
computer, you are protected by Resident Shield.
We are working on new solution (independent on your e-mail client). It
should be available in a few weeks."
Best regards,
Mirek Makovec

Hi Mitch!
Sorry, I see there was a question directed at me....Just not paying attention. :o
Anyway, I think Rick -(wow! cool avatar!), brings up a good point....What ever you use, the most important thing is to keep your definitions up to date! There are new viruses being created every day!
I use Norton AV as my regular, with some online scans too. AVG is a good one to have. Been pretty lucky so far...But pretty careful too! ;)

Hey there Jabar,
Thanks for your comments.
Yes, I do keep bang up to date with my AVG definitions, but I am still concerned about my Email cover -especially in view of the large daily volume of spam flooding into my Hotmail account (40/50 per weekday!!).
Sometimes, my PC is used by my 13 year grandson and whilst I've briefed him carefully about the virus dangers, it only takes one to get through the net!!
:) :) :)
