View Full Version : Merging images

I don't have all the details to hand, but a Win 98 machine 300mhz 128ram
IE5.5 (I think) (the pc's not with me at present)
Seems to work okay except viewing a "newspro" admin page that has a lot of drop down lists etc. As you scroll down all the parts of the form - all the drop down lists - seem to merge together, as if the image is staying and a new one is put above/below it and again and again.
I can't seem to make this happen on other web pages, although I haven't found one that has a lot of similiar forms....
It doesn't happen as far as I can tell on other machines, although I haven't tested it myself yet.
I have seen this before in the distant past, but for the life of me I can't remember what caused it. The web page or the machine, or , or , or....
Any ideas where to start?
Thanks guys :)

I am guessing that it may be a browser incompatibility. I use Netscape and most web pages these days are configured for IE. I will run into the effect that you are noting occasionally because of this. In this case it may be that the version of IE you are using can't handle that page or it may be that it is configured for a different browser altogether.

Midhurst. Budfred may well be correct. Post the URL of the bothersome page so we can have a look and see if it is the page or your machine.
There must be someone here running the same version of IE! even if only as a backup.

Another time that I have seen similar is when the page contains some kind of media content and the plugin for it is not intializing properly or the stream is too slow...

I'm not exactly taking that as a compliment!?!
With the URL I could see if it happens to me on 3 machines all on 98Se AND IE 5.5. Two at ~900mhz and the other at 200mhz. Does that give me 2 gigs??? Alright! It ain't broke OK? :p
Musically I would say the dry signal is overlaying the delay signal but we're not talking about delay units and feedback, right mjc? OOPS! (turning guitar amp down abrubtly) What were we talkin' about??? Oh yeah CLICK HERE (http://www.psychedelix.com/70tapete.gif//) . :cool
Yup, Feedback knob was up too far... :D
You get the link, I'll put in the Hendrix...

No insult intended, but IE gets such a bad press round here sometimes that I wondered if anyone would admit to using it :D
Personally, I like it as well, if you spend a bit of time stopping it phoning home at the drop of a hat!

I can't give you the url as it is a password protected admin page, but have atteched a pic of the effect.
I have upgraded the machine to W98SE, IE6, and DirectX 8 - and it seems to have made some improvement, although it still happens.
I think the answer is two fold: (any comments appreciated)
The newpro cgi page calls up 25 articles to be edited each time. This is a huge page and I get the message "Not enough memory" when trying to "view source" with notepad. This leads me to think that if the programmer can set the script to call up less then it will ease the strain on the memory resources.
Increase the memory: It has 128mb at the mo. It's a Gigabyte i440BX-8671 mobo - I can't seem to find a manual online, so if anyone knows how much ram it will take I'd be interested ;)

I found this site that should provide you with some info about half way down the page:
http://www.plasma-online.de/index.html?content=http%3A//www.plasma-online.de/english/identify/serial/mainboard/mb_gigabyte.html
And this is the Gigabyte website:

Good luck,

Wow! :D Thanks Budfred..... All the info I need there. The board takes 1G memory so plenty of space there. I'll give that a go.
