Are there any guidlines for connecting hard drives, cd drives, fans, etc, with regards to the power supply cables? How many items can you connect in series from one group of wires from the psu?

I'm putting together my first system, and my psu only has 2 groups of cables for these types of devices (and each one has two 4 pin conncectors). My case can currently take 5 fans. I live with no AC, and I feel that I need lots of cooling for this pc, so I'm thinking of setting up all 5. With one off the mb, can the remaining 4 run off one psu wire group (don't know the correct terminalogy)?

Also, as I understand it, the brands of fans I should stick with are ThermalTake, Sunon, and Vantec. Is double ball bearing all that important, or just ball bearing?

Your responses are appreciated!!

Welcome to PCGuide!!

I believe the number of connections to a power supply would only be limited by the level of power available and the quality of the wires. In other words, if you have a 200watt psu, it may not be a good idea to hook up five fans, but if you have 450watts and you use good quality wire to connect, you should be pretty safe and your wind tunnel computer should run cool.:D

From the comments I have seen here, I would use double ball bearing fans if you can afford it. Sounds like less trouble and noise in the long run.

Good luck,

Far more important than the number of fans is having them set up properly...frankly, I think 5 fans is overkill...your PSU will have a fan drawing air out of the case.

One or two more pulling air out of the case at the back near the top and maybe one at the front bottom pulling air in is more than enough. And you should be fine hooking them to one wire bundle as long as you have an adequate PSU (350W +)
