What is meant by a network ready UPS, and what is the difference between this and a non-network UPS?
Thanks, Greg
Most UPS have a software bundle that uses a serial or usb connector to tell you when there is a power outage and or give the status of the batteries
Network ready should have a nic inside it to tell the system administrator of a problem.
Or have the software to pass this info on by way of the network
In the case of a server it may also include the ability to auto shutdown

Rick,
Thanks for the reply.
By nic, do you mean a NiCd battery?
Also, does the non-network UPS NOT have the software for maint. & diagnostics?
Thanks, Greg
NIC = Network Interface Card.....
Most UPS today come with software.
But it only reports to the system it is connected to.
On a network the admin wouldn’t know of a problem unless the user of the node tells them about it.
On a server in a closet for example the admin wouldn’t know of a problem unless he/she were to look at the server monitor ..
