Hi guys, guess what this week end I was watching a movie on 'windows media player 7.1 ver' and display kept freezing very frequentely. When I click on detail it says some thing like 'microsoft windows media player and windows media services can not be on the same computer.....' so I close and start again and after some time same error. At one time I deleted windows media player and reinstalled and same problem. Any suggestions?

Back to you guys, this time I got the paper where I wrote it down about the error, this is how it goes: 'using windows media player and windown media services on the same computer - error Id# 0x800700IFm Remedy ID # 0x000000000' what is this mean???? I do hear sound but display freeze. Friend of mine says that Media Player 6.0 is better than 7.1, I am not sure about that, even if it is true, I don't have 6.0 version of it with me.

Try uninstalling all versions of media player and then reinstalling just one...unless you like all the M$ eye-candy, version 6.4 is probably your best bet...

A much better media player is Rad Light.

You still have the original media player; it's under programfiles\windows media player\....
6.4 is far superior to 7.0/7.1 i've found and WMP 8/9 are even better for video.
I still use 6.4 in XP just to play .wav files

Thanks a lot, iisbob
I've been wondering how to "back-grade" WMP for a while now and you just made it easy for me. I always assumed that the old WMP program file would have been over-written, but not so.
As one my old tutors was fond of saying, "Never assume Anything".
Anyways, WMP v7.01 is now history and v6.4 is back where it belongs!
Thanks again.:) :)

Thanks for the help. I did uninstalled wmp 7.1 and not installed any yet, I did tried TechRepublic for 6.4 ver. and I did not see any listed I will search tonight again for it. I have win 98 cd, do you think one of the cab folders have it? Bacause I am trying to find where I can get this driver for 6.4 ver. I have win98 ME on my sys. Any other site I could try?
