We've all heard the hype about vertex shaders in DX 8, ever since the GeForce3/Radeon 8500 battle began last year. And this year will see the rise of the DX 9 pixel shader battle with the Radeon 9700 Pro and the upcoming NV30. But just how important is all this DX "shader" battling since only a few actual games have used them? (ie - Anachronox)

In two weeks' time, we shall see, as the first highly-anticipated, major shipping A title to use vertex shaders hits store shelves. I'm of course talking about Unreal Tournament 2003, a game that's a guaranteed sale from me! A guaranteed sale for many, I'm sure, but perhaps only because it's a sequel to a highly popular multiplayer "frag-fest" game?

Gamers' ethos and hardware will now be tested, as upcoming games such as Doom III will also raise the shader bar. So my question is this - how will your game-buying decisions be changed by the new wave of shader games?
