Ever since I got cable internet, each time the PC boots (Gateway athlon 1100, ME) I get a prompt which says "Micro$oft Networking... Enter your password for Micrfo$oft Networking... ) there are spaces including my "default" pc identity (Valued Gateway Customer, or some such nauseating nonsense... ) and a space for a password. Since I have never set up any such password, this box remains blank, and I am able to finish the boot by hitting enter. Being essentially as lazy as mud, I would just as soon not be bothered with this prompt, preferring that the pc simply boot without my having to go through the exhausting chore of pressing ENTER. Is there any way to do away with this odious prompt? I notice it does not appear if I disconnect the cable from the modem (i.e., no Internet is present at boot) but needless to say the very NOTION of having to perform THIS Herculean task with each and every boot up requires me to go and have a lie down. :D

Dan,

If you can muster sufficient strength to click this link: TweakUI (http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/PowerToys/Networking/NTTweakUI.asp) and (once the download has completed) marshall enough muscle to copy the downloaded file to a temporary directory and double-click it to extract, and finally, with the last ounce of your ebbing energy, right-click the .inf file and select install, then you may find an answer to your woes ;)

But p'raps you should have another lie-down first :D

Sleddog-Thanks for the reply. I already had TweakUI, so my energy expenditures were mercifully minimal :D Works like a charm, no more wasting half my waking minutes pressing ENTER! I've used TUI for a lot of other things, only thing I don't like about it is every time it's activated, it inserts itself into the startup directory, requiring its removal in msconfig.
