I have a 1996 Pentium 1 motherboard called PCI Pentium TR4 motherboard. The manual says that I can connect USB connectors via a 10-pin connector on the motherboard. I've done that but just can't get the USB to work. I realise that there's no USB enabling/disabling in the BIOS. Will a BIOS update get this to work? If so, how can I get one? There's no address whatsoever of the motherboard manufacturer. Can some one suggest the possible causes & remedies? Thanx in advance.

Unless you are trying to use the USB ports with Windows 98...it wont work! Tell us your operating system info .....we can be of greater help. If you have win98, does your motherboard have USB "jumpers"...it should have either BIOS setting for USB or jumpers.....if neither, you dont have USB!! To get the Bios update........you go to the website of the Motherboard and they will have whatever updates are available for that model.

Yes, I'm aware of the fact that USB can only be used with WIN98 & already have it installed, well about the jumpers, the manual is not very clear about that, I've tried visually checking the motherboard for any possible jumpers connected with USB but to no avail, & alas can't find the WEB site for this particular motherboard. As I've said, can't even find any manufacturer's address in the manual. Maybe the motherboard designer has forgot to include something to make the connectors work. But the motherboard does have a 10-pin cable connector, clearly stated 'USB' & the manual also says so too. Any ideas guys?

If you can't find the motherboard website, determine if you have a via based chipset. I ran into this problem also, downloaded the usb filter file from viatech, as well as the 4in1 drivers and the problem was solved. You may also try windrivers.com to search for the downloads you may need.

Thanx, I'm trying my best to resolve it, juz not sure whether it's a hardware/software problem or both. I'm scouring the whole Web for answers. When u say 4 in 1 drivers, what do u mean? What is a USB filter & what is its function? When U had this problem, were U using a Pent 1 board & if so was your USB connector on board linked by cables? Was your BIOS able to detect the USB? I'm keen to learn & appreciate any help at all. Thanx once again to yourself & also to Randy.
