I am back again, I have to now install more capacity in order to satisfy Linux Mandrake 8.2 installing. I will install my memory to equate to 256 RAM and I presently have my HD at 2.0G
What i have to install now is another HD Slave.
My system is Pent MMX high performance HD is PCI Mode 4 EIDE controller with Bus mastering. Mother board is AP57 Utilizes PCI/ISA architecture.
When I shop for my other HD it seems that I will be only capable of no more than 8.4Giga for the HD >> my CMO's IDE Auto Detect shows me that I have LBA NORMAL LARGER so does this tell me that I can not go beyond 8.4? Somewhere in my searches I read that if I do not have INT13 I am limited to 8.4G HD? Is it possible to purchase HD today from about 4.0G to 8.4G? When i do install and change the jumpers accordingly for Master and Slave my IDE is set to Auto Detect there should be no problem in the recognizing this new drive?
Thank you
LL

Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux, because...

Linux accesses harddisk drives drives directly. It does not depend on what the BIOS detects or supports.

On a Linux machine, the BIOS must correctly detect and support the primary (boot) drive, or else the machine won't be able to boot. That makes sense, right?

Other than the primary drive, you can install harddrives of any size. Linux, not the BIOS will detect them and work with them. I used to run a P75 Linux machine that had a 520MB primary drive and a 20GB secondary drive. The BIOS on that machine only supported (if I remember correctly) harddrives up to 4GB :)

When you install the new drive just make sure it is jumpered correctly.

One thing to remember
If you are going to dual boot this box.
After the second larger ( Over 8gig) drive is installed
and setup by Linux
Linux will be the Only Operating system that will be able to see and use the drive
Any form of Dos or Windows will not be able to use it
