i have a p3 1000 mhx im pretty sure my case is ATX
i used to have win me on it and evrything was normal untill i formated
and instaled xp
now evrytime i have to shutdown it sends me the message :"it is now safe to turn off the computer" instead off shuting down on its own
what can i do to make it shut down on its own?

Download the Mother Board and chip set drivers.
Among them you should have the ACPI drivers / power inf files.
When you install these drivers the system should again shutdown normally

Hi w2wlord-

While Ricks suggestion certainly won't hurt- (and may help), I had the same problem and a very simple fix cured mine.

As discussed in this M$ knowlege base article (http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;q313290) , do as it suggests...

Go to the control panel, peformance and maintenance, and under power options, click on the the APM tab.
Check the box: "enable advanced power management"

It wont always work, but it did for me when I first installed XP. (Clean install)
