I installed a LG CD-RW/DVD-ROM Drive. It is model number GCC-4320B.
It is installed on a ECS K7VTA3 mob. Running an AMD XP1800 with 256mb of DDR. ATI Radeon 7000 video card and Windows XP Home. The problem is that I can't install any software. I installed XP using the drive, but once I attempt to install other software I receive setup failure messages. The drive is listed in the device manager and working properly. I downloaded the lates VIA 4 in 1 drivers, but that didn't work. I continue to get messages such as "The application failed to initialize properly (0X0000006)" or "The installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package." Also I received a message that "The system can't recognize the specified drive." I tried reinstalling XP, but that didn't work. I changed the drive and the second one did the same thing. Finally I installed a LG 52X CD-ROM and it worked without a hitch. I used the CD-ROM to install all of the software. The lg sight was no use. ANY IDEAS PLEASE!!
Quite possibly a cable or jumper problem on the drive. If it is the only drive on the channel then it should probably be set to "master" and placed at the end of the cable.
Also you neeed to make sure that it is set auto-detect in BIOS.......

In fact I took it off the end of the cable and attached it to the middle connector. It now works. I have replaced the cable. Thanks for the info.

Not surprised....
Most CD-ROM drives off all types are usually set as slave and thats why it worked when you put it on the slave connection....
Always check the jumpers before you install and IDE device...

When I build my systems I usually make my ROM drives the secondary master. Uless I build a system that incorporates two ROM drives, such as a CD-ROM and a burner. Then I will slave one to the other on the secondary controller. I like to leave the HDD alone on the main controller. This was the first time I ran into this problem. However, there is always a solution available at the PC Guide. Thanks all.
I'm experiencing the same problem with the same device. When i try to open an executive from any cd, windows gives me back (depending from what i don't know) one of those 3 messages:
- EecutiveName.exe - Entry point Not Found
The procedure entry point SHGetPavhFromIDListA could not be located in the dynamic library SHELL32.DLL
(Once it said KERNEL.DLL instead of SHELL32)
- The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on ok to terminate the application
- The Application package could not be opened. Please contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer Package.
I've tried to run windows in safe mode but nothing to do. I've tried also what i read here, changing the jumper from slave to master (it is the only ide device in the system), but yet nothing. A strange thing that I've noticed is that I've got many SHELL32.DLL files
C:\>DIR /S shell32.dll

What could I do? Thanks
