Have a system that won't boot up and no video. The error code is a toggleing tone high-low similar to a British Police or ambulance. I remember running into this some years ago, but don't remember the cause or solution.
Thanks for your help.

edwag,

I had a similar situation with a new system that I had assembled from a kit. The cause was that the CPU was not properly seated in the slot. I re-inserted the CPU and it solved the problem. If this is a new system that you have built, this could be a cause. If not, perhaps it means that the CPU or motherboard is experiencing a problem.

Hope this helps,

What motherboard do you have? Some, like my Biostar have a setting in the bios that monitors the fan speed and this can cause the tones you are experiencing. You need to go into the bios and disable this feature as it does not always accurately determine the fan speed. This is assuming that you have a good heatsink and fan! Can you hear and see the fan runing?

Do you get a video ID on boot-up?
Does thre memory test/count complete (to the full amount of ram you have in the system)?

Does the system boot to your operating system?

You can also get info on the bios error codes and troubleshoot the system by going to http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/boot/walk/index.htm
