New user here. Need help!! I was upgrading a freinds OLD system, 486 with upgrades, 133 with enough memory to run windows 98, and in the middle of the transfer from Windows 3.11 to 95 the power to the house stopped! When the lights came back on the system was not through, 75% , and it is not recognizing the old or new operating system! It want to go to dos or just be shut off. Anybody seen this before? Thanks, Jim

Welcome, luthierpro! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif If you still have the 3.1 install disks, you could start over from there, then do the 95 upgrade. If not, you may have to try to find a full version of 95. Otherwise, I think it's an up the creek without a paddle situation. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif Good Luck! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

If you have the old win 3.11 disks and your cd rom is working, you can also try re-installing win 95 - it should ask you for the "qualifying product disks", at which point follow the directions and place each win 3.11 disk in the a drive, as instructed (ie; disk 1...) then Win 95 upgrade should install ok. This may save some steps. I've done this a few times when my system required me to do a fresh re-intsall of win 95.

Not sure that will work. Doesn't Win95 upgrade have to be installed in Program Manager with Start | Run, not from the DOS prompt? I guess you could try it direct, but I think you'd need to boot from a Win95 start-up diskette. You can download one of those here (http://www.bootdisk.com). Give it a shot. You may still be asked for a "qualifying product" diskette that the upgrade process can verify. If you do need one and don't still have it around, I don't know of any way around that.
