When trying to install Office XP Service Pack 1, I encounter the same error everytime.
I looked at the error log and found an error 1635 generated at the time i attempted the SP1 installation.
After doing some research it seem that the error occurs because of a conflict with registry entries of the Windows Installer.
I currently have the Windows Installer 2.0.2600.2. The information we found is saying that because of an older version of the Windows Installer is still present in the registry it could not load the proper DLL.
We did not find any help on how to solve this problem at Microsoft.

What do I have to do to make this work?
Uninstall the Windows Installer 2.0?
Clean the registry, and if Yes how?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi. Windows Installer FAQ (inc How to remove the remnants of a failed installation?) (http://www.installsite.org/pages/en/msifaq/runtimeerrors.htm) might be of some help.

BTW; which OS are you using and have you installed any OS service packs?

Also; which of the OfficeXP editions do you have installed? and did you manually install Windows Installer 2.0 (or was it included in the OS).

Also; have you downloaded the service packs and are you attempting to install them yourself are are you trying to do this from the Microsoft Update Site.
