Hi Everyone !
I have a network, with peer to peer connection, where i have WinXP, Win2000, Win98 and all of them are under a workgroup,
Now i want to implement a win2k server where i can define users, how can i do this ? what setup do i have to run on each client PC and how can i restrict there access to printer and other shared devices
Is there any link or site which gives a detailed step wise guide to do this. I am confused i tried but failed so whenever i want to do i want to do it by my own,
I would appreciate if you could post your replies where the answers are specific.
Thanks !
Pushkar

Do you really need a "Server" operating system?
How much traffic is n your network?
You may need to use a machine as a server, even a dedicared one, but the regular Windows 2000 will accomplish that.

Make a checklist of all of your user and the number of equipment that you'll connect to the network.
Server operating system would be best if you have more than ten user and you need authentication for security to all user, but if it will be less than that just use peer-to-peer connection using the Workstation version only. http://www.microsoft.com/windows200...serversteps.asp is a good site for this.

Is it configured as DHCP Server or you're configuring it with a static one, pls. try to re-authorize your server configuration in the active directory, probably Windows 2000 Prof for your client support Dynamic DNS so it was able to configure it automatically!
