I've got a solid system, but wanted to upgrade my HDDs to a RAID 0 array. The RAID controller in on my mobo (MSI KT3 Ultra ARU) and I was wondering about people's opinions on various HDDs.

Currently, I'm looking at two Maxtor 6Y060L0 drives. 60gb each, Ultra ATA/133, 7200rpm, 2mb cache. Looked at some Western Digital and IBM's esp liked the larger cache of the WD's, but couldn't find any ata/133 drives from them. Any other recommendations or cautions about my drive choice?

My main computer usage consists of gaming and digital audio editing. Also dabble in some video editing. System is MSI KT3 Ultra ARU mobo, Athlon XP 1800+ CPU, 768mb pc2700 ddr RAM, MSI Geforce4 Ti 4400.

Your thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Apparently, the only current WD HD that's rated ATA/133 is a 200GB unit($350-400).

Thinking about ditching the whole ata/133 idea... Turns out Maxtor does have an 8mb cache drive, but they seem to have discontinued it for some reason. Oh well...

Probly just go with ata/100 but with a larger cache. I'm liking the look of the WD Caviar Special Edition 80gb drive with the 8mb cache. Almost as cheap as the Maxtor 60gb ata/133 drives and it's got 6mb more cache and 20gb more space. Hard to lose with that...

Anyone else have an recommendations?

There are several sites where the controversy of 8 MB cache vs.
ATA 133 speed are discussed and tested.

www.overclockers.com.au has several such articles.

But I am STILL NOT sure... there are some conflictive results. Some
indicate the 133 walks away, hands down the winner. Other results
say there is not any SIGNIFICANT speed gain with the 133 and the
8 MB cache is better overall.

Toms hardware just completed a review of 8 RAID (IDE) controller
cards. Interesting results there as well.
